Maxcase #04 - Marine industry: Repair and elimination of deep grooves on the rudder shaft, with prior surface preparation and full filling of the cavities with the appropriate polymer.
✳️ Challenge:
Repair and elimination of deep grooves on the rudder shaft, with prior surface preparation and full filling of the cavities with the appropriate polymer
🛠️ Scope of Activities:
Thorough preparation of the shaft surface, creating metal roughness;
Application of degreaser on the prepared surface;
Application of polishing with Maxmetal 5111 metal alloys and subsequent finishing;
✅Solution:
Spend more time preparing the surface to make it clean and create enough roughness to promote good adhesion between the polymer and the metal surface.
The application of Maxmetal polymer, composed of metallic fillers to reconstruct the grooves with subsequent finishing of the region of the stem that was restored
✅✅ Conclusions
After identifying the damaged areas of the shaft and careful preparation work to create roughness on the surface of the shaft, the repair was carried out and the equipment returned to full capacity, with the full range of rudder movements and with the vessel operating normally since the repair was carried out.
