Rebuilding and protection of a centrifugal pump volute.

Maxcase - Refinary - Restore the hydraulic profile of a severely deteriorated pump volute affected by long-term corrosion and erosion...

✳️ Restore the hydraulic profile of a severely deteriorated pump volute affected by long-term corrosion and erosion, improving hydraulic efficiency while protecting the equipment against future degradation without replacing the component.

🛠️ Visual inspection identified:

• Severe generalized corrosion;
• Loss of original metal thickness;
• Surface roughness throughout the internal flow path;
• Hydraulic profile deformation;
• Reduced pumping efficiency;
• High risk of accelerated wear and premature failure.
The client required an in-situ repair capable of restoring the original geometry while minimizing downtime and extending equipment service life.

✅ Solution:

-Complete inspection of the internal surfaces;
-Mechanical surface preparation and contaminant removal;
-Surface profiling to ensure optimum adhesion;
-Application of MAX1311, with a minimum thickness of 3.0 mm to rebuild the damaged internal
geometry;
-Surface leveling to restore the original hydraulic profile;
-Application of 1.0 mm MAX1552 as a finishing coat;
-Reduction of internal roughness for improved fluid flow;
-Formation of a continuous corrosion-resistant barrier;
-External finishing paint applied after polymer curing.

✅✅ The polymeric rebuilding successfully restored the internal geometry of the volute without the need for equipment replacement. The smooth ceramic coating significantly reduced internal roughness, contributing to improved hydraulic efficiency while providing outstanding resistance against corrosion and erosive wear. This repair allowed the customer to return the equipment to operation quickly, reducing maintenance costs, extending service life, and minimizing production downtime.
